A. Mitchell Polinsky
Member, Steering Committee

A. Mitchell Polinsky is the Josephine Scott Crocker Professor of Law and Economics, Law School and Professor of Economics, by courtesy, Department of Economics. His research focuses on the economic analysis of legal issues. Currently, he is conducting research on various aspects of the economic theory of public enforcement of law.

Recent publications include:

  • "Optimal Awards and Penalties When the Probability of Prevailing Varies Among Plaintiffs," (with Daniel L. Rubinfeld), Rand Journal of Economics
  • "Are Punitive Damages Really Insignificant, Predictable, and Rational? A Comment on Eisenberg et al.," Journal of Legal Studies
  • "Punitive Damages: An Economic Analysis," (with Steven Shavell), Harvard Law Review
  • "The Economic Theory of Public Enforcement of Law," (with Steven Shavell), Journal of Economic LiteratureHis teaching interests include the economic analysis of law.
