Is Modern Management Good For the Environment or Just Hot Air?

Using extensive survey and experimental data from around the world, Nick Bloom and colleagues find that well-managed firms are substantially more energy efficient. This suggests that policies to improve management practices — like more open and competitive markets, greater managerial and worker training, and the encouragement of professional (rather than hereditary family) management — may improve both economic growth and also energy efficiency.
