Dr. Philip N. Jefferson is Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he helps guide U.S. monetary policy and the nation’s central banking system. Prior to becoming Vice Chair in 2023, Dr. Jefferson served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and held senior academic leadership positions at Davidson College and Swarthmore College.

Join us in person as Vice Chair Jefferson leads a conversation on the U.S. economy, inflation, labor markets, and monetary policy. Vice Chair Jefferson’s remarks will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday, July 16th, followed by a fireside chat and Q&A moderated by SIEPR Director, Neale Mahoney. You are invited to a cocktail reception at 5:00pm.

About the Speaker:

Philip N. Jefferson took office as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in September 2023. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors since 2022. Before joining the Federal Reserve, Dr. Jefferson was vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty and the Paul B. Freeland Professor of Economics at Davidson College. Earlier in his career, he was Centennial Professor of Economics at Swarthmore College and also served as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board.

Dr. Jefferson’s research has focused on macroeconomics, poverty, and applied econometrics, with particular attention to economic inequality and public policy. He previously served as president of the National Economic Association and has authored numerous scholarly publications and books on economics and poverty. Dr. Jefferson received a BA in economics from Vassar College and an MA and a PhD in economics from the University of Virginia.
