Join Geoffrey Batt, founder of the Euphrates Iraq Fund, and SIEPR Senior Fellow John Taylor for a discussion on key developments in Iraq’s equity markets and the country's broader economic landscape during the past two decades.

About the speakers

Geoffrey Batt has nearly 15 years of public and private investment experience in Iraq, investing personally in late 2007 and professionally since he launched the Euphrates Iraq Fund in 2010.

Prior to Euphrates, Batt was an analyst at Quantrarian Capital Management, focusing on publicly traded equities in East Asia. He was a Senior Advisor to the Atlantic Council’s “Future of Iraq Project”, where he worked with Career Ambassador Ryan Crocker. 

 

John B. Taylor

John Taylor is a SIEPR Senior Fellow, the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics, and the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution.

Between 2001 and 2005, he served as Under Secretary of Treasury for International Affairs and was responsible for currency markets, trade in financial services, foreign investment, international debt and development, and oversight of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. During that time he helped establish a new Iraqi currency and central bank. He was also responsible for coordinating financial policy with the G-7 countries, was chair of the OECD working party on international macroeconomics, and was a Member of the Board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
