Brooks Barnes is a staff reporter for The New York Times, where he writes about Hollywood for the business, culture and styles sections. He is based in Los Angeles.
Mr. Barnes joined The Times in 2007 as a business reporter focused primarily on the Walt Disney Company and its many parts, a specialty that remains a big part of his job. He previously spent seven years as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal, where he covered beats as disparate as transportation, travel, the art market and television. He started out at The Philadelphia Inquirer covering suburban schools, the police and courts.
Born in rural Montana, Mr. Barnes studied English at Marquette University and earned a master’s degree at New York University, studying cultural reporting and criticism.
