Kalina Manova

Kalina Manova is Professor of Economics at UCL, where she specializes in international trade and investment, chairs senior recruitment, and was Deputy Department Head in 2020-2023. She received her AB, AM and PhD from Harvard, and was previously Assistant Professor at Stanford, Visiting Assistant Professor at Princeton, and Professor at Oxford. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Review of Economic Studies, the Investment Committee of the European Economic Association and previously on its Council and Executive Committee. She also serves on the editorial board of American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, and previously Review of Economic Studies and Journal of International Economics. She is a fellow of the Econometric Society, the Centre for Economic Policy Research, the LSE Centre for Economic Performance, the International Growth Centre, and the CESifo Institute. She has been External Consultant at Bank of England, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank.

Professor Manova's research explores three themes in international economics: (i) global value chains and firm production networks; (ii) firm productivity, innovation, and management practices; and (iii) financial frictions in international trade and investment. Her work has been published in leading academic journals and policy forums such as Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of International Economics, and VoxEU.
