Assistant Professor of Finance
Stanford Graduate School of Business

Claudia Robles-Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She earned a B.A. in economics from the University Carlos III of Madrid and a Masters in economics and finance from the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI). She received a PhD in economics from the London School of Economics, while working as a research analyst at the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Her main areas of research are household finance, banking and industrial organization — with a focus on regulation and competition. In her thesis, she assesses how consumer welfare in financial markets is impacted by the interaction of competition among intermediaries and their supply-side incentives (e.g., commission payments). In ongoing work she is trying to understand the role of economies of scale and scope in financial intermediation, and how these forces affect the introduction of a central bank digital currency or entry of fintech lenders. She is also assessing how (and why) contracting frictions between intermediaries and public allocators of capital result in suboptimal asset allocation of public funds.
