Jialu Streeter

Jialu Streeter, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) at Stanford University. Jialu works with external partners to engage SIEPR’s community of faculty, visitors, students, and supporters in pressing economic policy issues. Jialu helps strengthen ties with government and policy organizations to facilitate cutting-edge research across SIEPR’s research focal areas. She is in charge of the SIEPR Policy Fellows Program. 

As a Senior Research Scholar, Jialu has published in peer-reviewed economics journals such as The Review of Economics and StatisticsThe Journal of the Economics of Aging, Financial Planning Review, The Chinese Economy, The Actuary, Energy Policy, Asian Development Review, and Southern Economic Journal.  She teaches Intermediate Microeconomics for Public Policy at Stanford University.

Besides teaching and writing papers, Jialu engages in non-conventional research projects to explore solutions to challenging policy issues. Her 2022 documentary “Homelessness in California” has received over 800,000 views on YouTube. She serves on the Advisory Board at the St. Anthony Foundation to help the most underserved population in San Francisco. She is currently collaborating with multiple government agencies on homelessness, drug addiction, and crime. 

Prior to joining SIEPR, she was a Research Scholar at the Stanford Center on Longevity (2016-2021) and an economics professor at Allegheny College (2010-2016). Jialu completed her Ph.D. in economics at Indiana University, Bloomington. In her spare time, she is an avid piano player (watch her piano performance here). 

Jialu lives with her husband and two children in the Bay Area.
