What We Can Learn from the Long History of Manufacturing Employment in the U.S.
The long history of the sector reveals that the loss of manufacturing jobs in America has been largely driven by the decline in domestic output. The good news is that with well-targeted industrial policy, we could increase domestic output in some key areas of production, such as clean energy and micro-processors. Though any large-scale reindustrialization is realistically beyond our reach, this strategy would likely help to generate new jobs in the sector.
